PRE-CARE
30 days before procedure
Avoid botox and fillers around the lips area
Avoid Glycolic acid, chemical peels and laser treatments on the face
Avoid retinol and anti-aging creams, such as Retin
2 weeks before procedure
Avoid all facials, bleaching treatments, or waxing around the lip area
Avoid extensive sun exposure and sunburn on the face
1 week before procedure
Avoid Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen (Tylenol/Acetaminophen is okay to consume)
Avoid fish oils, DHA supplements, vitamin E, turmeric or any supplements/substances that can cause blood thinning
Avoid excessive smoking
Keep your lips well hydrated with a good lip balm (Chapstick, Aquaphor, etc.)
**Cold sores: If you are prone to any type of cold sores, this procedure could cause an outbreak. It is best to consult your doctor for a prescribed antiviral medication such as Valtrex or Zovirax, to take before and after your lip procedure to help prevent or lessen the severity of an outbreak.
1-3 days before procedure
Avoid any alcohol
Avoid coffee, tea, or any drinks with excessive amounts of caffeine, especially the day before the procedure
Gently exfoliate your lips 2 days prior to your procedure and the day before your procedure, 2x/day (combine sugar and honey or coconut oil for an at-home exfoliate scrub)
Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water (the first sign of dehydration is dry lips, dry lips = poor retention / uneven pigment implantation)
AFTERCARE
Following proper aftercare is crucial for best results. Failure to follow aftercare may result in loss of colour, poor healing and poor results. Each and every client will receive a lip blush aftercare kit following their appointment.
Client aftercare is important and makes up 50% of the treatments’ success!
The colour of your lips will turn dark for the next 5 days as the pigment oxidizes. Remember to keep in mind that the colour will lighten up to 50% once the healing process is complete. Once the pigment flakes off, it will appear as though no pigment has been retained. Over the next 6-8 weeks, the pigment will start to resurface and the colour will gradually “bloom” to a nice blushed tint. The colour may appear uneven at different stages of healing so it is important to be patient. This is a process that does not yield immediate results.
Immediately After + General Tips
Immediately following the procedure, clean the lips with a damp gauze every 30 minutes for the first 3 hours.
Remove the lymph (clear, yellowish fluid) from the surface of the skin (using a damp gauze & sterile cotton swabs provided) to avoid heavy scabbing. Heavy scabbing can result in less retention of the pigment.
Before bed, if the lips still have dry lymph, wash the area with lukewarm water, gently removing the dry lymph.
The lips may bruise after the procedure. Be patient as bruising will become less severe within 24 hours post-procedure.
Avoid intensive physical activity (that causes excessive sweating) until the lips are fully healed (light yoga and exercise is okay).
If your lips are really sore or swollen, taking a pain reliever or anti-inflammatory medication like Advil is permitted.
Ensure the skin is moist at all times by continuously applying ointment every 30 minutes throughout the day. Apply a thin even layer to the lips. Do not let the lips dry out.
Do not apply anything besides Aquaphor or aftercare ointment that is given.
Day 2-7
Avoid makeup on your lips.
Avoid sauna, sunbathing, pool (extensive sun exposure) and excessive sweating.
Do not pick or bite your lips (flaking and scabbing is normal).
Drink liquids with a straw.
Do not scrub or exfoliate your lips. Wash with fragrance-free soap twice a day and gently dry with tissue.
To avoid infection, do not kiss until scabs have completely come off.
No smoking until fully healed.
Long Term Care
Use a good quality lip balm daily on your lips, preferably with sunscreen.
Please inform your technician or care provider of your permanent cosmetics with any future MRI scans, chemical peels, fillers, or laser procedures.
Use of Retin A, Retinol, chemical acid peels or any rapid skin exfoliation products or treatments used on or around the lip area will cause the lip tattoo to fade prematurely.
Touch-Ups
Touch-ups is the final step of the lip blush procedure. The first touch-up is recommended to be done no sooner than 6 weeks after the initial procedure. After the healing process, the lips will be 50% lighter than they appear immediately after the procedure, thus touch-up sessions will make the results last longer. During a touch-up session, it is possible to change the shape and colour but we can only go bolder or darker, not lighter.
